Hindman’s Having a Ball Auction: A Treasure Trove of Autographed Baseballs

A remarkable assortment of autographed baseballs from a single collector is making its way to the Hindman’s Having a Ball Auction in Chicago. With over 570 lots available, this auction showcases an extraordinary range of baseballs signed by some of the greatest players in the history of the game. From Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson, and Roberto Clemente, alongside other rare signatures from baseball Hall of Famers, this auction promises to excite collectors and enthusiasts alike.

James Smith, the Director of Sports Memorabilia at Hindman, expressed his enthusiasm for the collection, describing it as one of the most extensive and exciting offerings the auction house has ever seen.

Among the standout pieces in the auction is a baseball signed by the 1934 New York Yankees, which holds particular significance as it was Babe Ruth’s final year with the team. This baseball is adorned with signatures from Ruth, his renowned teammate Lou Gehrig, and other Hall of Famers such as Earle Combs and Tony Lazzeri. To guarantee its authenticity, the ball comes with authentication letters from PSA and Beckett Authentication Services.

Another remarkable inclusion in the auction is a baseball from the deadball era, signed by a diverse group of players including Cy Young and the first baseball commissioner, Kennesaw “Mountain” Landis. What enhances the rarity of this baseball even further are the signatures of Mrs. Christy Mathewson and Mrs. John J. McGraw, making it an extraordinary collector’s item. It also comes with a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services.

In addition to these exceptional pieces, the auction includes coveted items such as a high-grade 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed ball, a 1957 Milwaukee Braves World Series championship ball, and a 1972 National League All-Star team ball signed by luminaries like Roberto Clemente and Hank Aaron. Collectors will also find signed team balls from the 1930 and 1932 Philadelphia Athletics, featuring legends such as Jimmie Foxx and Lefty Grove.

The Having a Ball timed online auction is currently open for bids on Hindman’s website and Live Auctioneers. The lots are set to close sequentially, starting at 9 AM CT on November 29. To ensure fairness, the auction implements an extended bidding system. If a bid is placed in the final minute before a lot is scheduled to close, the bidding period for that specific lot is extended by five minutes. This process allows all interested parties an equal chance to participate, without affecting the closing times of other lots.

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in Hindman’s Having a Ball Auction and have a chance to own a piece of baseball history. Explore the extensive collection and place your bids before the lots close. It’s an event no serious baseball collector or enthusiast should miss.
